Requirements for membership
Applicants must be eighteen years and physically capable of performing all required duties.
Applicants must have a physical examination and must submit to and pass a police records check.
No military or horse experience required – we will train.

Time commitment
Recruit training takes place every Saturday from 0900 to 1400 hrs. from 6 February through June 2010. This training consists of mounted and dismounted drill, as well as classes in various military subjects such as military courtesy and flag etiquette. Training is comprehensive and recruits will be expected to complete written tests and perform basic military drill and mounted drill before graduation.

At the conclusion of recruit training, there is a graduation ceremony and the new Privates join the troop. They immediately become active members and must attend weekly drills.
Stable Duty is assigned on either a Saturday or Sunday on a rotating basis throughout the year (approximately every 4 to 6 weeks). Assigned Troopers report at 0700 and stay until all afternoon duties are complete, usually until about 1630.
Parades and other ordered functions, including work details, are scheduled throughout the year. Many are mandatory and include holidays such as Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Annual Training (7 days) is usually scheduled for the second week in August at the National Guard Training Center, Camp Rell, Niantic , CT. THIS IS A FULL UNIT MANDATORY FUNCTION.
Financial obligations
A non-refundable $150.00 initiation fee.
Annual dues are currently $240.00 per year. ($20.00 per month)
Purchase of non-issue uniform items will be required, including dress boots, sweaters and grooming equipment.
Graduation
There is a graduation ceremony for each class, and upon completion of all training and financial requirements, recruits are welcomed into the Troop, receiving their spurs and learning a critical lesson - how to open a bottle of champagne with a saber!
